Schools in the Western Cape province faces a disaster of teacher shortages, this as a result of budget cut. Western Cape education has been hit with almost R717 million budget cut, which leads to loss of teachers and pose challenge in hiring. In other areas, It is alleged that some schools have resorted to hiring school governing body teachers which they pay from school account.
